Atomsmasher has always lived in the space between sharp wit and melodic punch.
Formed in New Rochelle, New York, the band made its mark with 1998’s debut Up & Atom, a cult favorite that mixed power-pop hooks with restless experimentation. Their songs turned up everywhere from college radio to television, and earned a loyal following on the NYC live circuit and up and down the East Coast.
Ed Erenberg fronts the band on guitar and vocals, with his brother Brett on keyboards. Their records lean into layered guitars, stacked harmonies, and lyrics that pair absurd humor with sharp observation. All Around the World (2004) and Each Day Is Better Than the Next (2014) built on that sound.
After more than a decade away, the band returned in 2025 with Keep This Secret. Longtime bassist Matt DeSilva is back, and Ed’s son Alex now plays drums. Three singles followed in 2026: the 160 BPM heavy rock of “Cartoon Violence,” the harpsichord and wah rush of “Lovely Head,” and the bright synth-rock of “Angela.”
